Hello guys I am Pranish. In this blog you will get info about civil engineering so please feel free to share my posts Workshop unit:-8

Decay of Timber
* Introduction
Timber decay is caused by the biological attack within a wood by certain types of insects and fungi. It can also be caused by the attack of wood boroughs, insects, etc. Decay may either continuous dryness
be caused by or continuous dampness.
Its purpose is to prevent further decay and to correct any significant building defects resulting in conditions of high moisture and poor ventilation of timber.
* Attack by Insects and wood borers
wood-boring insects are destructive parasites or trees. They make tunnels and feeds under the barks in living wood. It also destory sap conducting tissue. This causes structural weekness and finally leads to death of tree.
* Attack by fungus
Fungi are the system planatory organism which lives on an attack timber which cause timber to rot or decay. Fungi damages by feeding cells of wood and they cause decay.
* Type of decay
1.Dry Rot
Dry rot is caused by the attack of fungi that eats parts of wood of cleath plant
or tree. Generally it occurs in unseasoned timber having moisture contain more 20%. Dry rot is dark in color and breaks eassily.
2. wet rot
wet rot is caused due to wood destorying Fungi which needs high moisture content to live.
The part of timber which is in contact with
more moisture can be attacked by wel rot
easily Higher the moisture content, higher
chance of attack by sungi Dry rot is more
districtive than wel rot.
*The Reasons of environment process on decay
Decay on timber is caused by environmental processes. It means in natural phenomenon when the moisture will in the surface of timber than timber will get
damped. After some time the damped area may get attacked by fungi and ultimately its strength will be reduced and it gets decay.
If timber is left in the environment at dry
condition than timber will be attacked
termites and tends to decay of timber.
*Maturity of Timber
The tree which is matured and can resist the strength then it is suitable for fallen down, so in engineering, point of view the fallen tree should be well matured.
While selecting the tree we should find out the aged tree which is matured and can serve with sufficient abilities.
